2017 is definitely an interesting year in my personal, professional and photography life! But for the purpose of this first blog post I will tell you about my photography life.
Back In January, I made a decision that in order to improve my photography, I needed to take a lot more time and work on personal projects. But, like many photographers, my free time does not exactly come in large supply.
So how can I make the most out of it while being very focused. To avoid the white page syndrome, I listed a bunch of photography themes that I liked and made me more creative. Initially, my list was very exhaustive. More then 50 themes. After a week or so, I was able to narrow it down to 8 themes:
- People at work
- People in motion
The idea is to give myself a direction and place to start but at the same time, I didn't want the themes to be too restrictive. For example, if I had picked a theme like "Coca-cola bottles" or "abandoned train" then these would have left a lot less creative freedom.
Now having those themes, I asked myself what did I want my photographs to display. So I listed 4 things that I like seing in any photograph: Design, Information, Emotion and Timing. I will force myself to have at least one of these things in all my themed photographs.
Fast forward to July... Where do I stand on this adventure? Well, I didn't get a chance to work on any of these themes. Work has taken all my free time but it doesn't matter.
Now we start fresh and I will have more free time. No more excuses!!! It's time for a new beginning.
Stay tuned for my next progress report.
